On 8th September 2015, the foyer of the British Dental Association was transformed into a reception with canapés and drinks, ready for the presentations of the BDEF/BDIA Young Dental Communicator of the Year Awards 2015. The Award, sponsored by the BDIA, acknowledges the accomplishments and future potential of young dental writers and communicators.

Authors and editors of dental journals were encouraged to nominate a published article/video/blog by a writer under the under the age of 35, living in the UK at the time their communication was published.

Following a vigorous shortlisting process, Nikki Patel was awarded first prize for her article published in the BDJ in March 2015, ‘What is Community Dentistry?’ and Reena Wadia was awarded second prize for her website and video on Specialist Training. The award winners stated that this event gave them the encouragement and confidence to continue writing and the opportunity to broaden their horizons and lead it in a direction less well travelled in dentistry.

The BDEF aspires to encourage high quality and confidence in dental publications in the UK and to enhance communication within dentistry. This event provided a platform to build new connections and enabled delegates to gain a better insight into the opportunities available in the world of dental publishing.

Note: The BDIA represents and supports manufacturers and suppliers of dental products, services and technologies, to the benefit of members, the dental profession and the public. The BDIA is delighted to sponsor the BDEF Young Dental Writer of the Year Award.
